Artificial Intelligence Tools – AI Primer

Today’s artificial intelligence tools – generally referred to as “AI” – continue to become more prevalent in computer hardware and software.*  For example, the Microsoft Windows operating system and updates include Microsoft’s AI tool called Copilot, as do Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and so forth.

Stand-alone AI tools that can be used via a web browser are also growing in availability. Examples of stand-alone AI tools include Perplexity.AI, ChatGPT.com, Claude.ai, and many others.

AI tools are rapidly evolving and, hopefully, improving in accuracy and security. Because of the quickly changing AI landscape, Magnify247.com does not offer support for AI tools at this time.

However, if you wish to “turn off” an AI tool that comes embedded in your computer system, we can often assist you with that.

If your current computer system does not automatically include AI tools, it is most likely because your system has older hardware and/or software. These older systems are not equipped to handle the high data processing demands of AI.  If this is your situation and you would like to use AI tools, we recommend two options:

                  1. Upgrade your computer system, or
                  2. Use one of the web-based AI tools

AI tools have been used for decades in research and other high-tech applications. These “traditional AI” tools are used to accomplish programmed tasks, such as data analysis, pattern recognition, predictive analytics, and so forth.

The AI tools that have emerged in the past two years are a bit different in that they are capable of producing original content based on user inputs. These are Generative AI tools, or genAI.

Examples:

          • Write a paragraph on the top five ways to start a charcoal grill fire
          • Design a graphic logo for your new business

For this use, think of genAI as a supercharged internet search.

Despite the technical differences, the term “AI” is used for genAI in everyday conversation.
